Portugal elected to the Vice-Presidency of the Cybercrime Committee of the Council of Europe

Portugal regularly participates in the work of the T-CY Committee of the Council of Europe (Committee of the Cybercrime Convention). This has been the case since 2006. The Cybercrime Convention, in the drafting of which Portugal has also participated, is the most important international legislative framework in the fight against cybercrime. It was joined more than 60 countries around the world, being in process of accession several others, observers.

In 2010, Portugal was elected to the Bureau of the Cybercrime Committee and was re-elected in 2012, 2014 and 2016. At the Committee's Plenary meeting, on 9 July at the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, Portugal was elected to the Vice-Presidency of the Committee. Since 2006, the Public Prosecution Service has been representing Portugal in this instance, with Pedro Verdelho, Coordinator of the Cybercrime Office within the Prosecutor General’s Office as the national representative.
