PROTEUS Seminar | Online identity theft prevention, combat and victim support

Held this week in Lisbon, the closing seminar of the PROTEUS Project — sponsored by the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), in partnership with the Prosecutor General's Office — which focused the support to victims of online identity theft and on promoting prevention and help to prepare the intervention of professionals.

The seminar, a space to debate issues related with identity theft, its legal framework, modus operandi, criminal, international cooperation and support to the victims, had the participation of the District Prosecutor Pedro Verdelho (representative of the Prosecutor General's Office to the PROTEUS Project, coordinator of the Cybercrime Office within the Prosecutor General's Office and representative of Portugal to the Committee of the Cybercrime Convention of the Council of Europe), whose intervention focused on phishing, spam, and its legal framework. In this presentation it was also discussed the national law, mentioned the international framework, and explored the types of crime of computer forgery, illegal access and computer fraud.
